Jack Wilbur's Story
As of December 31, 2009 I am officially RETIRED....This will be a new experience with lots of new opportunities.....After 30 Years with the Florida DOT and 23.5 years with Volkert Engineering - I am happy to complete 53 years in the Transportation Industry......
I worked at the German Grocery Store through High School. Graduated and went to work for DOT. Entered the National Guard during the Vietnam war - became an officer. Passed the State Exams and became a Professional Engineer in 1969. After military duty, returned to my job at DOT and became the Resident Construction Engineer on the Skyway Bridge. ngineer in the State Maintenance Office. Head of the clean up of the Skyway Bridge when it was KNOCKED down (my bridge didn't fall).......Became State Maintenance Engineer in 1982. Married the love of my life in 1986. Rosalee Chapman Gowdy and her two sons - Jeff & Phillip. Then I Retired from DOT in 1987 - Became Marketing Engineer for Volkert & Associates in Tampa Florida. Took over the Florida Operation/Tampa Office in 1994. Continued to work for the company and became Chief Operating Officer in 2006. Live in Valrico Florida with my wife and have 4 sons - 3 married...3 wonderful daughter in laws and encouraging the 4th son...I have been blessed-Psalm 126:3......"The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy."
